The Greater Edinburgh region has more than 40 golf courses from public access, and free to prestigious and premium
The region of Greater Edinburgh, including Musselburgh, North Berwick and the City of Edinburgh itself is home to dozens of golf courses and clubs, including some of the best public facilities in the world. The region is also of historic importance in golf, with the Leith Links, Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers and Musselburgh Links being influential in the development of golf, including hosting The Open and Women’s Open.
Golf City will be an editorial feature, accompanied by a unique photoshoot, which will showcase the City of Edinburgh, and Greater Edinburgh region as a destination for a unique golf break. Golf City will also tell the story of golf in Edinburgh and trace the history of the game across the decades.
Golf City will be written and photographed by Matt Hooper, owner and founder of SHANK Media. Since launching SHANK in 2013 Matt has created hundreds of original articles, both long and short form, which have been a mix of thoroughly researched pieces and opinion-based features. He has also conducted many interviews, both sit down and remote with some of the biggest names in golf and the world of golf media including Gary Player, Rory McIlroy, David Cannon, Ewen Murray, David Livingstone, Sir Nick Faldo, Sandra Gal, and many others.
As well as covering the professional game at various levels and events, he has dedicated a considerable amount of time and energy to covering the local, grassroots game including attending many editions of the St Andrews Links Trophy, St Rule Trophy, R&A Local Clubs’ Gold Medal, and regional and final qualifying for The Open Championship. He has built positive, long-term working relationships with local St Andrews amateur golfers, and have been passionate about telling their story and promoting it to an audience which would not otherwise had known about their exploits.
Matt has been accredited to more than 30 tournaments across the DP World Tour, Legends Tour, Ladies European Tour and Solheim Cup, and has photographed the last 9 editions of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. Aside from his role with SHANK Media, Matt runs successful photoshoot tours in St Andrews, Edinburgh and Dundee, as well as offering wedding photography, boudoir photography and beach photoshoots. Matt also offers a Golf Photography service to visiting golfers at Dumbarnie Golf Links, Kingsbarns Golf Links and Fairmont St Andrews.
Matt will be joined in Edinburgh by Scottish Model and keen golfer, Kyle Moran. Kyle is a model who has been represented by MODEL TEAM SCOTLAND and TARTAN MODELS, and has worked with Matt on various projects in the past.

We will be looking to play a variety of public access, private club and premium resort destination courses across the Greater Edinburgh Region as part of the feature, as well as staying in city centre accommodation and dining in city centre restaurants as part of the guide to Edinburgh as a golf break destination.
