Scottish Golf is committed to increasing women and girls’ participation, membership and representation in the game. By championing equality within golf clubs, we want to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone. At the 2024 AGM, the membership supported Scottish Golf's plans to increase investment into women and girls' work, with a Women and Girls' Development post and additional support for clubs, programmes and initiatives tailored for female golfers.
Today, on International Women's Day 2025, Scottish Golf's Women and Girls strategy is launched, with a commitment to delivering work in five key areas:
Perception: so that women and girls see golf as a sport for people like them.
Leadership and workforce: creating female role models and leaders of the future within the sport
Pathway: ensuring every first experience is a positive one, and there are clear opportunities to develop and progress
Clubs: harnessing the outstanding network of commited clubs ready to welcome and nurture aspiring female golfers
Long-term impact: ensuring the vision is supported by resource and embedded across the organisation to deliver meaningful change.
The goals are supported by clear investment from Scottish Golf in areas such as:
A new fund for clubs wanting to progress their women and girls' work
Female-specific programmes that are tailored to women and girls needs
Recruiting public and community-based ambassadors to act as role models and champions for the work
Leadership programmes to develop a diverse workforce and create female leaders within golf
National campaigns that highlight the opportunity and the benefits of female participation in sport
