Writer: SHANK MediaSHANK Media

9 February 2025 - SHANK Media, by Matt Hooper: Today, President Donald J Trump will become the first sitting President of the United States of America to attend a Super Bowl. That is a remarkable fact.

An even more remarkable fact is that 77,302,580 Americans voted for him in the 2024 Presidential Election.

77,302,580 Americans voted for a man who has taken the United States from being a socially liberal country, open to all, built on immigration to the brink of the Far Right.

Donald Trump represents the very WORST of America.

The event he will attend today, and use for political gain, represents the very BEST of America.

The Super Bowl unites a country, it is the most viewed event on television with more than 100 million Americans tuning in to watch the big game every year, and it brings people together for Super Bowl parties, no matter which team you are supporting today. In 2023, 53.5% of NFL players were Black or African American. This makes the NFL one of the most racially diverse professional sports leagues in North America and the world, along with the NBA. In the two rosters of the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, there are more than 100 black or African American players. There are 18 foreign players in the NFL, and they are there because of a programme called the International Player Pathway (IPP), which was created to get more foreign talent into the league, furthering the diversity and inclusion of the National Football League.

The NFL runs a number of initiatives and programs in the community including 'Inspire Change', which is the NFL's social justice initiative, aimed at reducing barriers to opportunity, particularly in communities of color, and showcasing how the NFL family is working together to create positive change. Inspire Change comes to life at all levels of the league — current and former players: NFL teams and ownership; and throughout the league office.

The NFL is one of the most diverse, socially impactful sports in the entire world, and its major moment comes today, with Super Bowl LIX. Donald J Trump is the antithesis of what the NFL represents, and today he will use it for political and personal gain, let us hope for a great game, which he cannot try and take credit for. No doubt he will.
