SHANK coverage of the 125th US Open

0115 BST A truly unforgettable, melodramatic Sunday at Oakmont ends with the greatest possible drama and excitement. We expected a fearsome test from Oakmont, and we expected the winner to be around par, what we did not expect is the epic manner that would transpire. Golf delivers yet again, this sport is bloody unbelievable.

JJ Spaun becomes only the second black man to win the US Open, after Tiger Woods. He showed grit and determination to overcome a truly shocking front nine holes, and he produced one of the greatest putts we have ever seen to win his first Major title.

Robert MacIntyre confirmed his place as one of the stars of this sport with a sensational weekend when every other player was melting down. His rise in world golf has been meteoric, from Ryder Cup rookie in Rome, to PGA Tour winner in Canada, to Scottish Open success at Renaissance, and now a runner-up in the rain at Oakmont.

Tyrrell Hatton came oh so close to securing his first Major title and rubber-stamping his place as one of the greatest golfers in the world. For Adam Scott and Sam Burns it was Sunday splishing and sploshing around Pennsylvania, and rounds of 79 and 78 saw them sink.

The US Open is back. A proper test. As it should be.

0108 BST JJ SPAUN HOLES FROM 65 FEET! JJ SPAUN IS THE 125TH US OPEN CHAMPION. ROBERT MACINTYRE'S HOPES END IN HEARTBREAK. 31 YEARS ON FROM MONTGOMERIE'S PLAYOFF DEFEAT, A SCOT IS RUNNER-UP AT OAKMONT AGAIN. WHAT A US OPEN, WHAT A FINISH, WHAT A SPORT.

0100 BST Spaun finds the left side of the green with his second shot at 18, but he has more than 64 feet for his first putt

0055 BST JJ Spaun splits the fairway at 18 and he is one good swing away from winning and breaking Scottish hearts

0052 BST JJ SPAUN BIRDIES THE 17TH TO TAKE THE LEAD AT LEVEL PAR, WITH 1 HOLE TO PLAY

0045 BST JJ SPAUN WITH AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING DRIVE AT 17 AND HE HAS 30 FEET FOR EAGLE TO SURELY WIN THE 125TH US OPEN

0042 BST Hatton bogeys the 17th and falls 1 back with 1 to play.

0040 BST Sam Burns double-bogeys the 15th and falls two back of the lead; Hatton is hacking it at 17 and his hopes are dying away.

0039 BST ROBERT MACINTYRE SHOOTS 68 TO POST THE CLUBHOUSE TARGET AT 1-OVER-PAR

0034 BST MacIntyre's putt comes up 3 feet short and right, par putt to set +1 in the clubhouse.

0030 BST MacIntyre finds the green at 18, he has 30 feet to post level par in the clubhouse.

0028 BST Spaun bogeys the 15th and we have a four-way tie for the lead, including MacIntyre and Hatton. MacIntyre stripes a fade down the 18th hole.

0020 BST TYRRELL WITH A DART AT THE 16TH AND HE WILL HAVE A PUTT TO TAKE THE LEAD

0017 BST PAR for Hatton at the 15th and he remains 1 back of the lead, meanwhile, MacIntyre has a putt for eagle at 17.

0009 BST JJ SPAUN TAKES THE LEAD! A 20+ foot birdie putt at the 14th to move to level par!

2357 BST SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER! The World Number One is now just 2 back, if he birdies the 18th he will set the target at +2. REMARKABLE.

2355 BST EVERY PLAYER IS NOW OVER PAR. Burns bogeys the 12th, and we have a FIVE-WAY TIE FOR THE LEAD INCLUDING TYRRELL HATTON

2351 BST Burns pulls his approach to the 12th and faces a tough up and down to remain the sole leader.

2345 BST A stunner from Spaun at the 12th and he is one shot back. DRAMA AT OAKMONT.

2343 BST MAGIC FROM MAC! Robert MacIntyre birdies the 14th to move to 2 back of the lead.

2342 BST TYRRELL HATTON IS ONE OFF THE LEAD. The Englishman birdies the 13th to move to +1

2339 BST Hatton hits a stunner at the 13th and he has a very makable putt to move to +1 and 1 off the lead.

2338 BST Carlos Ortiz has a putt to tie the lead at the 13th, LIV Golf players were expected to contend in the shape of DeChambeau, Koepka and Rahm, not the Mexican.

2336 BST Burns makes double-bogey, and the lead is now level par. Scott makes bogey to fall to +1. The leading 7 players are covered by 3 shots.

2334 BST Burns fourth shot rolls over the green, and if he doesn't get up and down the lead will be OVER PAR.

2333 BST Burns blasts his third over the green and very shortly there may be NO PLAYERS UNDER PAR.

2328 BST Burns comes up short at the 11th and he has a truly horrific lie on the bank of the bunker, he won't have a stance to play the shot.

2316 BST Sam Burns rolls in a birdie putt at the 10th and he moves to 2-under and leads by 2 with 8 to play.

2311 BST IT IS HOSING DOWN AGAIN, A STOPPAGE IS A MATTER OF MOMENTS AWAY

2306 MONDAY FINISH AWAITS US? It looks like the end of the world approaching Oakmont, spectator pathways are unsafe and the course will surely be unplayable if more rain falls.

2304 BST THE BACK NINE ON SUNDAY, what drama awaits us?

2303 BST Burns makes bogey at the ninth and he is now just 1-under-par, leading by 1. Robert MacIntyre is 4 off the lead with 7 to play.

2301 BST Tyrrell Hatton makes a bogey at the 10th to fall to 2-over-par and 4 off the lead, but Burns needs to chip in at the 9th to rescue par.

2256 BST Dark clouds are converging on Oakmont once again, a second delay could not just move us to Monday it could make the course completely unplayable if that rain falls in great volume.

2251 BST Viktor Hovland narrowly misses his par putt on the 9th after splashing out of the bunker and the Norwegian falls to +2 and 4 off the lead with 9 to play. Burns and Scott miss the 9th fairway left and right respectively.

2246 BST Sam Burns chips and putts for par the 8th, Scott makes a bogey after missing right and we now only have ONE PLAYER UNDER PAR - Burns leads by 2.

2242 BST PLAY RESUMES and Tyrrell Hatton makes a stunning up and down to remain at +1 through 9 holes.

2157 BST PLAY WILL RESUME AT 5.45PM ET / 10.45PM BST with the leaders having 11 holes to play in regulation.

2152 BST There are just 2 players under par for the championship, the way it is going we could see a repeat of 2007, when nobody finished at par or better.

2150 BST UPDATE EXPECTED SOON, it is fair to say it will be longer than a 45-minute delay considering it already has been!

2130 BST The greens are looking a lot better, they will for sure be a lot softer but the rough will be a lot heavier too.

2101 BST PLAY SUSPENDED DUE TO DANGEROUS WEATHER - Extremely heavy rain has flooded the greens at Oakmont. Delay is set to be around 45 minutes.

2059 BST It is absolutely hosing it down at Oakmont, you have to wonder if the hooter will sound shortly.

2045 BST The leaders are having a horror show on the final day at Oakmont. Sam Burns, Adam Scott, JJ Spaun, Viktor Hovland and Carlos Ortiz are a total of 13 over par, and now 5 shots cover the leading 8 players, which include Tyrrell Hatton and Robert MacIntyre.

2044 BST 5 bogeys in 8 holes for JJ Spaun, his hopes are alive, but fading fast.

2000 BST Hatton bounces back from his opening hole bogey with a brilliant birdie at the fourth hole to move back to +1.

1930 BST A shocking start for JJ Spaun and Adam Scott, who both make bogey at the first.

1916 BST THE LEADERS ARE UNDERWAY, and the 54-hole leader at Oakmont has an indifferent record of converting that lead into a win, only 3 out of 9 have won after taking the lead into the final round.

Leaders through 54 holes

1927 Harry Cooper - lost in a playoff

1935 Sam Parks Jr - Won

1953 Ben Hogan - Won

1962 Arnold Palmer - lost in a playoff

1973 Arnold Palmer + 3 others - Palmer finished 4th

1983 Seve Ballesteros - 4th

1994 Ernie Els - Won in a playoff

2007 Aaron Baddeley - 13th

2016 Shane Lowry - 2nd

1912 BST Cameron Young is 2-under through his first 3 holes, and the American has moved to +1 for the championship. Young has yet to win on the PGA TOUR, what a way it would be to break his duck if he got the job done at Oakmont.

1909 BST The Open Champion Xander Schauffele is 3-under for his round, with 5 holes to play and he has moved inside the top 10 at +4.

1907 BST Carlos Ortiz makes a bogey at the first, and sadly Tyrrell Hatton follows him with a miss from 3 feet to fall 6 shots behind. The chasing pack have not made the start required.

1903 BST Hatton has a 30-foot birdie putt at the first green to move to level par.

1857 BST Robert MacIntyre opens his round with a bogey and falls 8 behind straight away, maybe his race is run already?

Good evening everyone, and welcome to the Final Round of the 125th US Open Championship, at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. We come into the final evening of the championship with American Sam Burns leading by 1 shot from Australian Adam Scott and American JJ Spaun, with Norway's Viktor Hovland two shots further back. From a British perspective we have Tyrrell Hatton and Robert MacIntyre bidding for their first Major title, and they begin the final round 5 and 7 shots off the lead respectively.
