2238 GMT - 5-under-par having only hit 4 fairways. Rory McIlroy may well have shot in the high 70's on another day, but he putted superbly and his short game was sensational. A great start for the 2019 Champion.
2234 GMT - A fantastic birdie at the 18th from McIlroy, a wonderful long pitch and run from the right wood chip to set up a 7 foot putt which he buries and finishes with a round of 67, right now he is 1 shot off the lead
2202 GMT - Billy Horschel birdies the 17th to reach 4-under-par, the BMW PGA Champion would love to add the PGA TOUR's flagship event to the DP World Tour's showpiece title.

The Englishman, born in Bath (the same place as myself) has had a fantastic last couple of years and since missing out in the LIV Golf Promotions event at the end of 2023 returned to the DP World Tour. He has since won the 2024 European Open and the 2025 Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship. A runner-up finish at the Investec South African Open saw him move inside the world's top 50 and earn a spot in THE PLAYERS Championship.
